Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting the annual team building event for SONY at ICC Wales. With 430 delegates organised into 43 teams of 10, the day was set for a series of activities designed to foster collaboration, unity and teamwork among participants from different departments.
The event kicked off with the Domino Challenge, where teams built intricate domino setups. This group of system engineers had a lot of fun but took the challenge seriously, creating detailed and complex designs. Our MC’s live commentary added to the excitement, building anticipation as the dominos were set off.
Next was the Hole in One – Golf Tournament, where teams constructed and played on a crazy golf course made from household materials. The creativity was astounding as each team designed unique golf holes and then had the opportunity to play on each other’s courses, resulting in a fun and engaging activity that highlighted their ingenuity and resourcefulness.
The Picture Perfect activity brought a lot of laughter to the day. Teams chose costumes inspired by SONY movies and recreated iconic scenes, capturing the moments on iPads. During lunch, a slideshow of these photos was displayed, adding a nice touch to the midday break. Can you guess which scenes they were recreating from the images below?
In the iBuild activity, teams were tasked with recreating models of SONY items, such as video cameras and TVs. This activity allowed participants to showcase their building skills and attention to detail, resulting in impressive replicas that demonstrated their technical prowess and teamwork.
Finally, the Origami activity symbolised the unity of Japan and Wales by having teams create two types of flowers – cherry blossoms to represent Japan and daffodils for Wales. After lunch, the final reveal showcased their beautiful origami creations pinned on a board that was then hung on the wall. The event concluded with a team photo in front of the ICC’s red dragon, capturing the spirit of the day.

Overall, the team building event was a great success. It brought together 430 delegates from SONY to engage in activities that promoted collaboration, creativity and unity. The day was filled with laughter, friendly competition, and impressive displays of teamwork.
